Cat/Dog Situation
Context: We have been together since 2017 and married since 2019. We have three young children. I have always wanted a cat, but my husband said no because of the cost, the care, and potential allergies. Now his parents gave the kids a puppy, and he agreed, which is basically the same thing I wanted.
I just feel sad and a bit overlooked. What do you think?
Him: Babe, the parents gave the kids a puppy. He's 6 weeks old. The kids like him. :)
Me: And???
Him: And we'll bring him at the house. I will take charge for his vaccination, deworming, etc. What do you think?
Me: I think you have decided.
Him: If you do not want, let us know.
Me: Because I wanted a cat and you said no.
Him: I don't have any objection to a cat. It's just that I can't afford an expensive pet. You can have always have a cat if you want. No problem with me. Anyway, what food do you want? I can send you money.
Me: McDonald's
Him: Okay.
3 hours later…
Me: Babe, I just want to be honest about how I felt earlier. When I asked many times before about getting a cat, you said no because of the cost, the care it would require, and the possible allergies we might have. I didn't push for it anymore because I wanted to consider your opinion.
It feels a bit different with the puppy. The decision was already made... and you were simply telling me about it. I understand that the puppy was given to the kids and I don't have a problem with having one.
I just felt sad, Babe, because when it was something I wanted, we had to consider all the reasons against it, but when it came to this, it was already a yes.
I just wanted to share how I felt so you'd understand where l'm coming from... but I'm okay. Please bring the puppy home. I'm excited to meet him.
Him: Okay. The kids are so happy with the puppy.
