If you were offered 4 packs to not log in for the next 4 days, would you do it?

Discussion

The new development around the end of month rewards got me thinking about this. I know that the packs won't change, but the individual cards being rewarded will be subject to duplicate protection, so should all be from the new set (for players who have all the rares from current standard sets).

For me, that's seven rares and an epic from the new expansion. It's hard to evaluate that in 'pack' value, so I just went with four packs as a benchmark, which lines up nicely with the next four days.

So long as I don't log in for the next four days, I should get only individual cards for Across the Timeways. I've done this before back when packs weren't updated, and the time frame was just a day or two.

I've got plenty of other ways to entertain myself. My quests are fully clear (including the event), and even if they weren't, there's no way I'd get even close to eight levels on the reward track.

I'm F2P, who plays for fun. Grinding the brawl with a hyper aggro frost DK isn't worth the packs. It's the same reason I can't be bothered to grind out wins to get from D5 to legend every month.

Similarly, the meta is as uninteresting as it gets right now. Battlegrounds is mildly entertaining, but as I said, I've got plenty of other games.

In the end, the minimal entertainment I'd get over the next four days, balanced against seven rares and an epic from the new expansion motivates me to just not log in.

I already had a similar experience with the event quest, with the chance to roll a quest that would give me a pack. That involved logging in, rolling the quest, and then logging out. I did that for about four days before quests piled up, and it was worth doing those quests for the gold.

Obviously there's an upper limit to all this. Nov 4 I'm logging in to play new cards regardless. I do enjoy the core game enough to hit D5 every month, and level 200 or so on the reward track every set.

Clearly Hearthstone has engagement metric expectations that have resulted in mechanics that incentivize players to log in at least once a day, and to play 3-5 games a day. The rewards for playing more than that fall off pretty sharply. In this case though, the only real loss (in 'progress') is one daily quest exp on the old reward track, or about 25 gold.

Hearthstone has two distinct 'fun' elements for ranked players. Playing the game and improving one's collection. Currently the former is at it's lowest in the expansion cycle, and the latter is best served by not playing. It's an easy decision for me.

Now, should I spend my free time on reddit or touching grass?
