Applying for WBS from outside Berlin

So I’m applying for WBS to move in to Berlin, and as I’m living in another city currently, they asked me to pick any Wohnungsamt. Does it makes a difference? If I pick Wohnungsamt Mitte instead of Friedrichshain, does that mean I can only get apartments in Mitte? Or is it just formality? Thanks in advance
