Professors: with the advent of AI have you noticed a notable overall improvement in students’ essays?

Teaching

I certainly do not mean AI done essays. I mean the essays actually done by students, since each of them now has a personal assistant that they can consult. and who would point out flaws, if we may say.

For example, I spent the past weeks writing essay projects and while I am strictly against using AI to write any part of my essay, I did consult it on general concepts in my topic. Just like I would use a google search. I also asked it if my article answered the question and AI pointed to some flaws, which I corrected on my own. For example it pointed out that my article was more descriptive and lacked critical evaluation, so I corrected that. Without AI this would have never occurred to me. Now there are errors I didn’t really fix because they are outside the scope of my actual skills and I do not intend to produce a flawless piece of work, that’s not the point of education. I also noticed that AI can actually miss the point and be clueless.
