What are the best stories to read ?

Hi fellow Sonic enjoyers !
I'm French, and around those parts, we're not that lucky when it comes to reading material. We've the occasional comic books, but most of those seem to be aiming at an audience that I'm not (i.e kids ! Don't go angry at me, if things went my way, I'd still be one)
As I'd love to throw myself into some good story, where do I start ?

Thanks for the help !
