So how much do grades really not matter - did terrible on my midterm

Just got my midterm grades back for my one class that had it and not looking good. I got a C thanks to the generous curve… I was in about the 8th percentile. A very new experience for me as someone who has always been top of class in everything I do academically.

I have some gripes about the teaching style and I am not naturally good at the topic of the class but ultimately the blame is on me. I felt like I understood the fundamentals, but I didn’t study. Recruitment and life at school has been too crazy. I relied too much on ChatGPT to do the work for me.

I’m at a GND school. Is there any real concern here? How badly do I need to do for this to seriously hurt me or make me retake classes? I go to every class and participate at a reasonable level.
