Demon mode key unlocks

Auto demon mode is not working unless popped for one time in a run ,after manually activate DM it starts to trigger itself after cooldown.

Is the situation is same for killing blow upgrade ? I need DM mastery damage in my farming runs , and also want to achieve true idle.
