Transfer old nvme to a new pc

I want to built a new pc. And I want to use my old nvme. I already made the usb with the windows and I have and an external hard disk so I can keep my files. Should I try first to run the new pc without doing anything and if don’t run to use the usb? When I will put the usb it will make by himself the format on the old storage unit?
