Aldosterone/Renin ratio… has the lab got it wrong?
Hi,
I had a aldosterone/renin test to explore Primary Aldosteronism as a cause of my youngish hypertension.
The (NHS) lab had a couple of issues, including losing the result for 3 months, but got it back with a report of “normal”, so my GP isn’t investigating further.
I found the result in my app and… looking at it more, I’m not sure if it actually is normal… but can’t find any clear guidance online.
The renin is bang on the lowest number of the reference range (0.5) and the ratio (240) reports as normal, but no range/units are given and it seems high vs online ones I’ve found.
Does anyone, with knowledge of this specifically, happen to know if this actually is a normal result (hence primary aldosteronism shouldn’t be investigated further), or not.
Thankyou
Lab report:
Aldosterone renin ratio: 240.
Note: the aldosterone renin ratio reference range only applies if the patient is hypertensive.
both results fall within appropriate reference ranges with a normal aldostorone/renin ratio.
These results are not suggestive of Conn's syndrome, provided the patient is not in receipt of spironolactone (nor high dose ACE inhibitor).
Renin Activity 0.5 (0.5-3.5) nmol/L/h LCMS method: reference range 0.5-3.5 nmol/L/h
