How do people get better at this game?

In short, me and one of my buddies have been trying to get into Forsaken, but everytime we play we either almost instantly die to the killer within the first 30 seconds or barely get any kills, if we play as the killer. We have tried most of the tips which we have heard from tutorials and other players, but nothing seems to make us better.

Are Forsaken Players just that good or are we missing something? We could really use some tips atm.
