Weird interaction- not sure what to think??

something unsettling happened early this morning, and it’s been sitting with me all day. I’m honestly a bit disgusted with myself for how I handled it,or rather, how I didn’t handle it.

I had just gotten dropped off by my Uber and was walking back to my apartment unit. When I got off the elevator, I noticed a man walking nearby. I assumed he was heading toward the elevators, but then I realized he was following behind me. I kept walking, focused on my phone, trying not to overthink it — until he sped up and came right up beside me.

He asked if I “knew how to draw.” It’s Halloween, so everyone’s dressed up, but this guy, not in costume, asked if I could draw Frankenstein stitches on his face. Before I could even process it, he pulled out a marker. I was caught completely off guard, a little buzzed, and instead of saying “no,” I froze and helped him.

At one point, he even told me to use my spit to wipe off the marker. I can’t even explain how uncomfortable and wrong that felt in hindsight. I finished quickly, said it didn’t really work, and he eventually walked away.

This morning, I keep asking myself why I didn’t stop it, why I didn’t say no, or why my boundaries just disappeared in that moment. I think I was just stunned, confused, caught off guard, and wanting the situation to end quickly.

Has anyone had a situation like this happened before?

I’m a little afraid that I might accidentally catch something because I used my spot to wipe off the existing marks on his face. I’m definitely not drinking tonight because this is way too of a weird situation and I for whatever reason did not enforce some boundaries until this guy off. I am really angry at myself for not telling this guy off!!
