Sub Announcement Regarding Profile "Issues"
Howdy everyone, morning, evening. We at the fursuits mod team have seen an increase in comments and post lately that seem to be going against our sub. This includes, making comments harassing posters, making memes making fun of posters, telling people to hurt themselves or even go to jail for things that are harmless.
Don't want to read it all? Great, there's a TLDR at the bottom. Want to go into detail? Continue on.
Now the topic that seem to divide people and cause them to react this way is about specific users who may have nsfw material on their own reddit profile. That's it. That's the tea.
We on the fursuits sub try to keep this place as welcoming for many age groups, however, as per reddit compliance, you have to be 13+ in order to make an account. So, this sub will follow that guidelines and act as If everyone here is at the very least 13/14.
However, due to the nature of being for ALL ages, and given we are the furry community, (and the internet), there are some things that may be posted or shared that may seem a little more "adult", than just someone standing idly in a suit. We understand that everyone from all walks of life will choose to interact and portray themselves in whatever way fits them the best in this fandom. For some they may feel more expressive In their suit and choose to dance, for others they may feel calmer in their suit and make asmr, and for some they may feel more confident and strike poses. Even if there are some ways you specifically don't relate to, there is no "wrong" way to express yourself as long as you're not hurting yourself or others in the suit.
With that being said, we have rules in place to report, remove, and even ban more adult, dangerous, and nsfw material if it becomes evident to us. We do listen and we do read every single report given to us. Yes, every one.
However, what users post on their own personal reddit account more often than not, is out of our control. If a user were to post nsfw material on their account or in a different sub, BUT follow our subs guidelines for what is and isn't allowed then there is nothing us as a mod team can do to reprimand them. For some they may be posting their niches, business, or even just other hobbies. Will some people disagree? Sure. Is there some things that make others uncomfortable? Absolutely. But we are not them, they are their own person and are allowed to do the things they want to do if they follow our subs and reddit as a wholes, guidelines.
For those that state "Well I don't like it because when I click on their profile I see stuff I don't want to see!" Then don't click on it. When you click on someone's profile, reddit may give you a NSFW warning indicating that there is nsfw material (whatever it may be!) Connecting to that user. It asks If you consent to see that material and you have the option for "Yes I consent" and "No, go back". If you go out of your way to click on their profile, read the warning, and say "Yes show it", and then get mad because you saw it, well, that's completely on you.
For those that state "What If a kid sees it?". Once again, in order to have a reddit account you have to be 13+. So at the very least no one under 13 should be seeing it anyways (hopefully). And if you are between the ages of 13-17, then you should have the internet knowledge to not click on random things and to read before you click accept. And if you are still upset by what you saw then you really need a parental guidance to either watch your internet usage or teach you how to handle the internet better.
For those that state "Well why can't we just ban those with nsfw accounts?" That idea is only good in theory, because, many people may have their accounts flagged as nsfw for a multitude of reasons, and banning many redditors who may or may not have posted nsfw material for 1 post or 1 comment or even on 1 sub, will just cut out a large chunk of reddit. I mean for first hand experience my account was flagged nsfw because my socked feet were in the photo I was taking so reddit isn't always fair for what counts as "nsfw".
For those that state to just get rid of suggestive poses as I've seen before in some comment threads, now we're going into tricky waters. What is a "suggestive" pose? Does it involve emphasis on a body part? Is it the angle itself? Is the pose fine if they're completely covered up? What if it's a skit where someone is trying to be "sexy" for the lolz? Would this pose be reported if a masculine fursuiter were to do it? In some cases the answer to report and delete is very obvious, but in most cases we have to go back and forth to figure out if we really would have any grounds for banning that wasn't rooted in just 1 person feeling uncomfortable or even going into a misogynistic territory.
For some that say just ban those obviously being "sexual", once again that's a very grey area. What's sexual to one person may seem completely innocent to another. I mean I've seen comments where people were just laying down on a couch in a full suit being said they were being too sexual so I mean.. And just like the question before we have to figure out what the intention is behind it. Are they really being sexual or are they just poodling? With that most of the reports for nsfw material come from our female presenting posters, and surprise surprise everyone but women may or may not have different shaped body's (I know that's the wrong spelling but I have to bypass auto censor). Some may include having a larger chest or larger waist or larger legs, and that's okay.
We have received many many reports from people on posts of a woman just standing or taking a photo with the most normal of poses that the other posters are doing, but be reported for being nsfw just because they have a larger chest, that is deemed "sexual and promoting porn".
Come on, you're better than this. We in the furry community are supposed to be past body shaming and name calling for any degree, especially when it is someone doing the exact same thing everyone else is.
For those that stated "why don't they just have two accounts?" OK? What would that solve exactly? Because it's easier now for you to go through their account and not see stuff that makes you uncomfortable? That's not their issue nor should they feel inclined to having to bend over backwards to make it easier for other people when those people agreed to see it in the first place.
Second to last thing, yes, we know, some of you guys are down bad in the comments. No, this sub isn't for that. Yes your comment will be removed if you say "sexy", no we don't care. Even if you think a suit or suiter is attractive, please tone down those "compliments" in the comment section. You also don't know who is behind that mask or if they're comfortable with that reaction. No you can't justify it with "but they were asking for it in this photo!", nope, photos are not consent and we don't play that game here.
Finally, if you don't like seeing someone's content the block button is free. If you don't know how to use it that's fine, try to look it up, ask around, still confused? Message me directly and I'll help you out. However it's your job on the internet to cultivate your own experience, and if you don't like something then you have to just accept, scroll on by, block them, or even just leave.
TL;DR, If no one breaks the rules there's nothing we can do, don't like it? Then block it.
If anyone has any complaints then message me specifically.
