I’ve had to buy two ovens in the two years I’ve owned my home.

Rant

Oven 1: Three days before we closed on our house, the seller’s agent contacted our agents to tell us the oven in our new house stopped working. They offered to pay for a new part and installation, but our agents countered saying we should get compensation for it, since the oven was very fancy and was a focal point in selling prospective buyers on the kitchen. They ended up knocking off a couple hundred dollars from our agreed upon closing costs and we called it at that. Since the stove still worked just fine, we just cooked everything in our air fryer until we hosted Thanksgiving and needed to buy a new oven to cook a Turkey.

Oven 2: Yesterday, we hosted a Halloween party and hired a cleaning service to clean up our house while we were at work. Our friends came over maybe 30 minutes before the party because they wanted to cook wings for the party at our house. Maybe 15 minutes after they started preheating the oven, we start smelling melting plastic. Open the oven, see the cleaning company decided to store one of our mixing bowls inside and the bowl is now on fire, then use the fire extinguisher and call the fire department. We rallied together and actually still had the party, just outside in the cold lol. We don’t want to get into it with the cleaning company, so they’re just gonna come back and redo our house for free, but that does mean we need to get a new oven on our own. Unless we want to hire someone to scrape the hardened plastic out from it, but we’d rather just chuck $500 on a new one.

I just can’t believe that we’ve already had to buy two ovens. It’s one of the most unexpected aspects of owning this house.
