Pre Legal Letter from Midlant Credit Company saying
Location: Illinois
About five or so years ago I opened up a PayPal credit card. I wasn’t good with any of my cards at that point and that credit card was no exception.
Before getting married in 2024, I ended up closing and setting up payment plans for all of my cards in order to try to sort my financial life out. I set up a payment plan for my PayPal CC (it was NOT in collections).
A year passes and I get a letter from Midland Credit Company saying they might be pursuing legal action for the money I owe on this credit card.
I admit, I didn’t realize that PayPal stopped collecting from me, although I really don’t know why. I called them and requested they send me all paperwork associated with my account.
I also mailed a letter to midland requesting that they send me my original contract, proof of the debt, how the final debt was calculated. I also noticed on the letter they sent me that it said I defaulted on the card in October of 2023 but that my last payment was made in 2024 (when I set up the payment plan) so I asked them for clarification on that as well.
Now I’m just waiting for them to receive the letter (they have to sign for it, I have the tracking) but I’m freaking out. I’ve never been sued. I can’t afford to be sued.
I just feel like I want to fight this because there was no reason for my account to be sent to collections in the first place. I set up payments.
What do I do?
