Wedding Day Timeline - Board Games + Disco
Looking for some assistance from the hive mind - we are planning on having board games at the wedding (we've hired someone to bring the games and teach people how to play them) as half of our friends and family don't dance and the other half do and board games are a big part of our relationship. The person doing the board games have a 3-hour minimum hire. My partner is also chronically ill so can't dance for a long period of time and at other weddings we have been to, if the bride and groom aren't on the dance floor, the disco becomes a bit dead.
So the way we see it, we can either do the board games after the wedding breakfast and speeches and then have a short disco in the evening (which my partner would be able to manage with a chair on the dancefloor to sit down when needed) or do disco and board games at the same time so that my partner can take lots of breaks and there are other things to do if the dancefloor is dead. The buffet will be served around 8.30 to 9pm. There are two adjoining rooms so the buffet will be served in the adjoining room but there would still be room to have the board games in this room at the same time.
The ceremony and reception are at the same venue so there is no travel time. There will be around 70 guests. The timeline for the rest of the day is:
- Ceremony at 1pm
- Drinks and photos: 1.30-3pm
- Wedding Breakfast and Speeches: 3-5.30pm
- Evening entertainment:
- Option 1: 5.30-8.30pm - board games (with cake cutting around 7pm to break it up), 8.30pm first dance, dancing until 9pm and then buffet which will give my partner a break and then resume dancing.
- Option 2: 5.30-6.30pm - first dance + disco, then board games from 6.30-9.30pm with disco alongside.
Option 1 would work better for my partner as there would be a shorter amount of time dancing but would mean the other half of guests who don't enjoy board games as much will have nothing to do. Option 2 would mean both sides would be entertained but would mean the wedding would essentially be split in two (although with some playing games in the same room as the disco) so might mean the dancefloor feels dead anyway.
Not sure what to do!! Any suggestions welcome, we've only paid a £50 deposit for the person doing the board games so if the whole thing becomes infeasible, it's an acceptable loss. Comments on the general timeline of the day are also welcome, this is only the first draft and not confirmed with the venue. Let me know if you need any other information to give suggestions.
