Work Flexibility / Child Disability
A disability service has recommended I chat to community law about my situation, an appointment at community law requires a decent chunk of travel as well as managing my family so I would love an idea of where I stand to see it it's worth the trouble.
I work for local government front facing and our sites are open 6 or 7 days a week. My site is open 6 and I'm contracted to work Saturdays which I have done for two years.
My son was recently diagnosed with ASD and Saturdays are a real issue for us. My other child wants to go and do things, my ASD child is worn out from school and needs to unwind at home. My partner is trying to manage this all and it ends up with everyone at breaking point.
I explained this to my manager and asked to drop Saturdays as my family is at crisis point. They went away and came back saying no and any roles that come up that never used to involve a weekend day absolutely will in the future.
This employer consistently advertises being flexible when recruiting new staff but the reality is they are not. I know that I'm entitled to some flexibility because my son has a disability but I don't know if that extends to being able to drop a contacted work day.
At this stage I'm looking to resign at the end of the year. Even if I have a case, I don't know if I have the energy to fight it.
Any advice very welcome.
