Is it okay to ask my gf to come out sooner?

Need Advice 🤝

My gf is not out to her parents yet and I’m starting to struggle with the situation. We’ve been together for about three years now and I want to be able to plan for the future. But she has made it clear that she will not marry or live with someone without her parents’ permission.

I’m not Indian myself but from everything I’ve learned over the last few years is that the outcome is totally unpredictable. Her family is pretty traditional and conservative, though maybe her parents are less so than the extended family. But her Parents’ response will certainly be influenced by what extended family and society thinks. I oscillate between having a little hope and thinking it’s impossible.

My gf says she will come out in about a year, but I really don’t want to wait that long. Because even after she comes out who knows how long it might take to convince them, if it’s even possible. I just want to start the process now, to know.

I’ve been keeping this feeling inside, because I worry it would be wrong to express this and ask her to come out earlier. I know that coming out is a very personal thing and you should never push someone to come out when they’re not ready. On the other hand, this is my life too, and at the moment I feel like it’s in limbo for her. I’m not sure what to do.
