Any info?

I have this reel I inherited from my FIL. His family came over from Germany in the early 1900’s so that could be the country of origin. There is no manufacturer stamp. It still works well, with one little button engaging a drag and the other a clicker. It is tiny, about 2” x2”. Sorry, no banana handy, I used a quarter. It is stamped 40 on the bottom. Anybody have any insight on it?
