PSA for Calgary (and pet owners in general)

Missing Dog/Cat/Pet

My next-door neighbour’s dog went missing 6 days ago.

In less than a week, his dog was found, brought to a VCA clinic, transferred to the City, and euthanized.

No notice. No hold period long enough for the owner to find him. He was a day late. He is understandably beyond distraught. It hadn’t even been a full week. This was a healthy, well-loved pet with a good home.

I don’t know if this is standard practice for VCA or the City of Calgary. I understand times are tough and perhaps this type of thing isn’t allocated the resources necessary, but it’s deeply wrong and needs to be addressed.

Pet Owners: Please double-check your pets’ tags and microchips, and spread the word. Avoid VCA as the go-to for anything like this as they are an abhorrent company to begin with.

It’s unfortunate. A simple administrative process should never end a life this quickly.
