MIL blamed cats instead of being honest.
TLDR; MIL agreed to help watch kids while I gave birth. Complained about everything from the moment she left her house in NC. Got to our house in FL complained more. Then used the cats not adjusting within 5 days as her reasoning to leave instead of just telling us she doesn’t like it here. She also woke me up to sweep up some bread crumbs that were in front of our garage door. I had to add that to this because who tf does that?
About 2 months ago we asked my MIL if she would come stay with us for a couple weeks to watch our toddlers while I have a baby. She agreed and Sunday my husband set off to get her and the rest of our baby stuff from our storage unit in NC. We live in FL. This was going to take his entire 2 days off and he works nights so his days off are the days he spends with our kids meaning our kids didn’t really get to spend time with their dad for 2 weeks and I didn’t get a break from mommy duty. My husband gets to the place his mom is staying, she sold her house and moved in with a friend with the cats, (when she moved into her friends house she stated that it took a month for the cats to adjust, this is important for later) and helps her load up our car with her stuff, the cats, and get some baby stuff from the unit along with our guest bed. Then it’s time to head back to FL my husband asked his mom to drive she agrees, the headlights end up on brights and she freaks out not knowing how to turn them off then explains to my husband that she can’t see very well even during the day. My husband asks why she didn’t just say that so they could get a hotel instead. I’m not sure what happened after that but he ended up stopping at a truck stop to take a nap in the morning. When he gets home he tells me that the entire ride she’s whining to the sleeping cats and apologizing to them for the long ride even though they are asleep for a majority of the ride because the vet gave them something to help. It’s late morning Monday and my husband unloads the uhaul. MIL takes the cats to guest room and they all take a nap. Everyone wakes up and it’s dinner time, at dinner she’s crying like full on ugly crying because the cats aren’t adjusted it hasn’t even been 12 hours, but the cats are eating and going to the bathroom like normal. The next day Tuesday, my second child has Early Childhood Intervention coming at noon to work with him on social skills because he cries when new adults are around. MIL is one of the adults he cried about and his therapist was like yes he needs that kind of exposure and to let her know how long it takes for him to adjust. During the session she leaves after the therapist asked her to join. Okay whatever. Then we have to go to Walmart for diapers and things for my oldest child’s Halloween party. We split up, my husband, the kids and I go one way she goes her way. We meet up at check out and she complains about everybody being rude to her in this Walmart. At the checkout this lady sees my second kid took his shoe off and threw it in the floor and she picks it up seeing I’m extremely pregnant and sparks up a conversation with MIL. When we get home all she wants to talk about is how the cats aren’t adjusted and how rude everyone at Walmart was. The cats have been here for a day and a half at this point, don’t forget they took a month to adjust to the friend’s home. Wednesday! My oldest has a field trip to the pumpkin patch. My second kid isn’t adjusted to MIL because she’s not trying to spend time with him so I make sure he’s asleep for a nap before my husband and I head to the pumpkin patch. We come home from the trip and guess what we come home to. If you said complaining about the cats not being adjusted you’d be correct! I have an OB appointment so my husband stays up with the kids while I go to that, I’m 6cm dilated at 36 weeks. I come home and tell everyone instead of reassurance I get complained to about the people at Walmart, the guy across the street mowing his grass, the pillows I got for MIL and the cats. Still eating and going to the bathroom normally just not leaving the bedroom. Thursday, my oldest has an autism evaluation to get a diagnosis. He and I are gone for 5 hours, while my husband, MIL, and second child are at home they go to the store to get food for this food drive and drop it off. I get the news that my kid is severely autistic and now I have a laundry list of things I need to do. I get home and I’m pretty sad that things were worse than expected. I’m not asked about how the evaluation went I’m met with complaints, the people at Walmart, the guy across the street didn’t wave, the people in the neighborhood not waving, the traffic on the road when we live 2 minutes away from an elementary school and the cats. It’s been 3 days and one of the cats was exploring the house she even pointed that out. I have to go to the grocery store to get meat and stuff for dinner for the next 2 weeks and some more stuff for the food drive. The people at this store are super nice to MIL one lady even helps her get a cart and another guy asks her about teas or something. I was thinking this might put her in a good mood seeing that there are so many nice people here. Nope. We get in the car and all she does is talk about the people at Walmart and how no one in the neighborhood waves to her. We get home I make dinner and apparently my cooking is trash, she told me she has to eat everything plain so I made her a plain ass meal. Unseasoned chicken breast, fresh broccoli and boiled potatoes everything unseasoned and plain. “I can’t eat that” she says to me then tells me that she can’t eat my cooking because it was cooked in ceramic pans. Now it’s bedtime everyone is sleeping except for the cats that probably want to roam while there’s no activity in the house. I shut my kids door and my door so that the cats can roam. MIL won’t let them out of that room so they get anxious I can tell because I can hear them. Friday, my husband gets home from work with a weird feeling and guess who wants to leave. Not MIL but the cats because they haven’t adjusted in 4 days but it seems like they want to, to me at least. MIL has done nothing but complain about everything but it’s the cats that want to leave? Okay whatever I’m upset because this is also the day that my kids are actually including her in things, bringing her toys, wanting her to hold them and giving hugs and kisses. My husband is upset because she complained about everything under the sun and hasn’t made an effort to enjoy her time here. To add to that she asked him to take her home. He can’t until Sunday morning but he’s thinking it would be our luck that I give birth while he’s gone. He says you’ll have to get a one way rental if “cats want to leave so bad.” Let me remind you it took 1 month for them to adjust to the place they call home and it hasn’t been 5 days here. We find her a rental for Saturday morning and she spends the day in her room crying. Saturday morning. This morning, my kids didn’t sleep well and they normally go into the playroom and play instead of waking me up. All the gates were open for some reason so my kids got into some bread and made a mess at 2am I wasn’t really paying attention to the mess I just wanted these kids to go back to sleep. I put them in their room and shut the door. They don’t go back to sleep until 6am. I go to bed once I ensure they’re asleep. This lady wakes me up at 6:30am to clean up this mess because she can’t get into the garage with bread crumbs on the floor. The broom is literally right there! I clean it up pretty pissed off because why tf would you wake someone up for something so small?! Me waking up wakes up the kids and for some reason they have full energy! So I’m up for the day. My husband then takes his mom to get the rental and boom I’m having contractions roughly every 10 minutes for like 40 minutes. MIL starts talking about how she can’t stay any longer because the cats aren’t adjusting. I’m just in shock with the reasoning she keeps giving us. When it’s pretty clear she just doesn’t want to be here because why would you leave knowing that your grandchild could be born soon? And that it takes your cats more than a couple days to adjust? I’m severely upset that without someone to watch my toddlers I’ll pretty much be alone giving birth because my husband will be trying to manage the kids.
