EA222 Troubles (and adjustment advice)
I recently bought a basically new EA222 high back soft pad lounge chair with tilt and swivel features. I have a bunch of Eames lounge chairs, mostly first-gen ribbed aluminum lounge chairs with the tilt and swivel features + a 670.
I'm pretty disappointed with the chair. Mainly that it's too high off the ground and it doesn't tilt back far enough to put you in the weightless position that make Eames or Ingmar Relling chairs so comfortable. Feels like something the lawyers insisted on (have seen info that suggests these chairs gave up 20% of their tilt in the more recent generation- I'm guessing for safety).
Rather than endure I'd like to make some changes to the chair. I would have thought the easiest thing to do would be to disassemble and grind down the "stop" within the tilt mechanism, but GPT thinks there's a way to do this with a plastic shim instead but can't find any examples online (and suggests it's dangerous to go at it with an angle grinder).
Has anyone tried tweaking the tilt on this chair?
