Don’t take Westcott Courses

TLDR: these courses are terrible. There are hidden fees. There is no class support. The content is trash. Take a class somehow else.

I needed to get my pre-reqs done fast. Westcott was cheaper than portage and you can start anytime (and finish in a month if you do one module a day). I took Nutrition and Developmental Psych. The classes and assignments are easy.

Nutrition: the tests are all the same questions from the weekly quizzes. But they are filled with very very random questions that are very specific (how many calories in a 1/4 cup of berries?) The quizzes were filled with spelling and grammar mistakes, sometimes so bad that you can barely understand the question. There were at least a few questions that had only wrong answers that I had to message the teacher about it (how didn’t they notice this?) The “textbook” even has mistakes in it.

Development Psychology: The quizzes and tests focus on the smallest random details and stats vs big concept, relevant information. They care more that you seemingly memorize every random detail from the chapter instead of understanding the concepts of the subject matter. The midterm had questions that came out of nowhere and unless you can memorize the chapters you won’t be able to answer many of the questions. I’ve never had a class work like this that you felt like exams were a trick.

There is no real support for the classes. There are also hidden fees! Taking the final exam will cost you $30-$200 or more to pay a proctor. Never saw any info on this until I paid for and started the course. This was shocking and really adds to the cost. It feels scammy. They could use LockDown browsers for testing like other online classes I have taken instead of forcing students to incur these extra hefty fees.
