Came across this event in a stream and I couldn’t help but find it kind of sad. With a lot of players already feeling like event spam is simply too much, it seems to me the events themselves aren’t even getting the bare minimum amount of attention deserved to be interesting to the player in the first place. Here’s one such example.

Simple grammar or spelling errors can be overlooked, but ultimately it is a combination of lack of attention and an event that uses so many words to say, what can be summed up as: “lightning struck the ground in front of you, causing a bush fire.”

It seems to me it was intentionally fluffed up to give the illusion of detail, and grammatically it is a mess.

“The darkness comes suddenly, brought on by the dark clouds above you” and then lightning being misspelled twice is just kind of crazy to me.

It seems to me that this is the kind of shallow implementation is simply insulting to the player, since I’m not even sure who this is for. If events are a way to immerse the player in the game world and the characters, don’t the events themselves deserve a bit more attention than this? And if they are designing it from the perspective that most players simply gloss over events and pick the best outcome, then why add more, absolutely meaningless events that don’t add anything meaningful to the players experience?

Are events like these indicative of overall development?
