Is it still safe to travel to Rio after the recent raids?
Me, my girlfriend, and my mate are planning to spend New Year’s Eve on Copacabana Beach in Rio, then stay in Rio for a month before moving to another country.
We’re starting our South America trip in December, so Rio was supposed to be our first stop.
But all the recent headlines about police raids and rising violence have us second guessing it. We’re already a bit nervous and don’t want to end up in the wrong place at the wrong time or be made an example of.
Has anyone been in Rio recently who can say what it's like? Are tourists still out and about, or does the city feel tense?
Also, if we are still good to go, where’s best to stay for safety but still close to things like Christ the Redeemer and the main beaches?
Any honest advice would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance <3
