My underarm + body odor finally balanced during perimenopause — here’s exactly what worked (and what didn’t)

Body Image/Aging

Hi everyone,

46F. I wanted to share what finally worked for me after months (honestly, 2years) of struggling with odor changes during perimenopause. I know how discouraging it can be to shower twice a day and still feel off — so maybe this helps someone else.

What’s working now Kosasport Chemistry Deodorant (fragrance-free) – absolute game changer. It’s aluminum- and baking soda–free, and the blend of shikimic, mandelic, and lactic acids keeps odor-causing bacteria away without irritating my skin. Zero itching, zero rashes.

Yoniagood Persimmon Soap – I use it daily, sometimes twice, for full body cleansing (including underarms, inner thighs, and gluteal crease). It balances pH and kills odor naturally. I even use it on my scalp once in a while just for the scent (I have mild hyposmia).

Ketoconazole shampoo once a week – helps keep scalp and body microbiome balanced.

Hair care: CeraVe fragrance-free shampoo/conditioner, occasionally Oolai Persimmon shampoo bar.

Laundry: Tide Odor Rescue + OxiClean and Lysol Laundry Sanitizer. Everything is fragrance-free, and I never wear clothes twice. Switching mostly to cotton fabrics made a big difference — synthetics trap odor.

Hormone therapy: low-dose estradiol patch (.025 Dotti) + oral progesterone (100 mg). Within weeks, odor issues, sweating, and mood improved dramatically.

Supplements: Vitamin D, B12, and iron.

What didn’t work Lume (fragrance-free): I wanted to love it, but I ended up with itching and irritation. It worked on less sensitive areas (inner thighs, gluteal crease, belly button), but not for my underarms.

PanOxyl 10% bar soap: worked decently short term for bacteria control, but long term it was too drying and didn’t prevent odor well.

PanOxyl 2% creamy wash: same story — used it for about six months before realizing it wasn’t addressing the hormonal aspect.

Aluminum-based deodorants: caused rebound odor once I stopped using them.

Fragranced products: all triggered irritation or made the smell worse once mixed with sweat.

Routine that keeps things stable Shower daily (once is enough now — I used to do twice).

Wash underarms and folds with persimmon soap.

Pat dry, then apply Kosasport.

Rotate laundry daily — fresh cotton only.

Use persimmon soap again at night if I’ve sweated or exercised.

Keep hormones and supplements consistent.

I tested everything like a little scientist, and for me, this combination finally balanced my skin and body chemistry. No more itching, no more sour or metallic odor around my period, and my confidence is back. Hope this helps someone who’s in the same boat — perimenopausal odor is real, but it’s manageable once you figure out your skin pH, microbiome, and fabric game.

TL;DR: After months of perimenopausal odor and irritation, I finally fixed it by switching to Kosasport Chemistry deodorant (fragrance-free), Yoniagood Persimmon Soap, and cotton-only clothing washed daily with Tide Odor Rescue + Lysol Sanitizer. I use estradiol (.025 Dotti patch) and 100 mg progesterone, shower once daily, and skip all fragrance and baking soda products. Lume caused itching, PanOxyl was too drying, but this combo balanced my skin’s pH and microbiome — zero odor or irritation now.

Good luck, break a leg, blessings
