MCAT Study Advice
Hi everyone!
My current studying plan is: ~ Reading Kaplan textbook chapters and answering all of the concept checks before looking at the answers (spending about 5-6 hours per chapter which I know is really long, but I haven’t taken these courses in a few years and forgot a lot of details) ~ Taking notes on a google doc for things I don’t know while reading the chapters (included in the same 5-6 hours above)
So far I’ve only gotten through 8/12 chapters in bio and gen chem so far. I’m planning to only read the bio, chem, ochem, biochem, and physics books because I heard the CARS one isn’t helpful and that the Khan Academy psych/soc content is really helpful
I’ve also been balancing shadowing and volunteering at the same time, but now I’m thankfully mostly done with shadowing, so I’ll just be spending time volunteering throughout the week aside from MCAT studying
Anyway, my main 3 questions are:
-
With how long it’s taking me to go through the books, I’m not sure if I should switch my content review method to something else, but I really like the way they lay out the info in these books. Would you suggest I change anything about my method?
-
How would you recommend practicing the content I’ve learned once I’m done with the books? Should I just fully focus on a pre-made Anki deck, or quiz myself on the google docs I made, or invest in a question bank online, or just go straight to the AAMC content?
-
How do you guys structure your daily study schedules?
- Side note, if anyone else is planning to test in January and would like a study partner or accountability partner or something similar, I would too lol so feel free to let me know!
Thank you so much for reading and sharing any input!!
