whats the purpose of BEING a distractor

i was thinking about buying pebble and giving distracting a try as i had tried it with looey, but then i thoughts about why. why would you be a distractor? you dont get as much currency, its fairly tedious (early on at least), and youre just stuck doing that for the whole run. im not trying to sound hateful, im just wondering what the benefits of it are.
