Finger pain, swelling, redness

31F working in construction. I wear my gloves 90% of the time especially when working with tools and material that you don’t want getting on your skin. I do move and rearrange fire retardant blankets that are made of fiberglass every so often.

On Monday I noticed a small bump on my index finger that felt like an ingrown hair. It was on top of the area between the middle and last joints. I thought maybe it was a splinter or something really small so I tried squeezing the area to see if anything would come out. Didn’t see or feel anything so I let it be. Throughout the week it has become more and more swollen and red. It’s localized to that space between the joints still. Now I have a similar bump on my pinky fingers on the side of that same space between the joints. Pinky finger is not becoming as swollen or red, but definitely irritated. My index finger got more and more painful due to the swelling and yesterday I finally had enough and went to urgent care. The PA was just as stumped as I am. X-rays showed nothing significant so no tiny pieces of metal or anything that would appear on those.

We’re currently trying to see if it’s maybe a weird case of contact dermatitis and are trying a steroid cream twice daily. The redness has definitely gotten better since yesterday, but the swelling remains.

Has anyone seen something similar before? Just wanted to see if there are other ideas that aren’t the obvious ones.

Photos of my fingers are in the comments.
