Recipe for night and for shooting with flash

Please, if anyone knows a great recipe (or camera setting) for shooting at night — not in complete darkness, but with soft yellow lighting and with flash, let me know! I want the photos to look beautiful. I’ll be taking pictures on my birthday, and it’ll be my first time shooting with my camera. I want to try both with and without the “recipe” , so if anyone knows something that makes low-light photos look amazing with flash and without please share!
