AI Usage

hi everyone, so yes this is about the use of ai and chatgpt. now, idk what everyone thinks of ai use in college, but it can be a useful tool. however, i think to an extent, it can be harmful 100%. you may think that i don’t value my education since i use AI sometimes, but that is not the case. i found myself having very limited time, since i am also working as a full time student. having AI help me find sources that i want to write about can be helpful. i don’t use it to generate ideas for me. ive never been flagged for AI usage before, and i care deeply about my education and the opportunities i have. i had an assignment i had to do where i had to integrate political philosophy with a relevant issue. i came up with my own ideas about what i wanted to write. i know a lot of people wouldve wrote about the no kings protest and other relevant issues going on in america that are very important to think about. however, with the other classes ive taken, i noticed there was a lot of intersection, so i wanted to write about something else. ive researched a lot of case studies about women’s rights, equality, oppression and violence in india, afghan, and iran. so i know exactly AND specifically what i wanted to discuss. yes there are thousands of articles, but there was a specific article i wanted to find that i had previously used but couldn’t find. so i asked chat gpt to help me find the articles i needed, and i ended up finding the article that i previously used as a source. however, it also brings up a ton of other relevant articles about women’s rights rights so i also used them. that’s the only part that i had ai “do” for me. however, in the assignment, it also told us to put the news article in the doc but i failed to notice that at the end of each source it says “chatgpt.” lmao, unbelievably stupid on my part. not sure how i didn’t catch that. now i’m not sure if that’s what flagged my paper, or if the context of my writing was also flagged. but i’m really nervous and i’m not sure how to talk about it with my professor. she didn’t grade me paper, and told me that to please come see her so we can talk about the evaluation. i don’t even know what this means. she didn’t give me a 0, and also, she’s the head of the political science department which is my major. so i feel shameful and disappointed. i know that i can confidently speak about the paper i wrote, i even have the time stamps and edits i could show her. i spent hours and most of the night writing it. it did say ai use was not permitted in her syllabus. because of that, i am worried about failing and even being kicked out of uni, but if she is wanting to talk to me about it, this means that there’s a chance that she’d hear me out and resort to kicking me out?
