Capitalism is revised monarchy. It creates kings without crowns.
Believers in capitalism see it as opposition to the tyranny and totalitarianism of the state represented in the king against the people.
However, in practice, it was opposition to the king’s power over the nobles and the businessmen of the time.
So the whole notion that capitalism represented liberty and egalitarianism of the people against the leviathan of the state is actually the liberty of the elites from it.
The thing is, in the dark ages before monarchies, kings were the rich and elites of their people! People tend to think of monarchy as if it was hereditary since the start of time.
So it is just a matter of transferring the rule from who has been rich and powerful in the past to who are actually rich and powerful today. They are both sides of the same coin. Capitalism is just a polished and renewed version of monarchy. Sure, it is not hereditary in principle, but it ensures keeping the offspring of the rich in their class.
What is actually egalitarian and benefiting the welfare of the common people is that whoever is powerful and rich (which are basically the same thing) has no benefits over the common people and has to pay their fair share of taxes to the public society.
So whatever the names or means of ruling/organizing society you want to call, it doesn’t matter. What matters is what percentage of wealth the bottom 50% of the population shares.
You may object that I am mixing a political notion of monarchy with an economic one of capitalism, but actually these boundaries are imaginary. It's all about means to reach the highest class and staying there.
