Best area to stay for first visit

Apologies if there is a linked post or something on this. It’s likely a common question.

Will be visiting Rome for the first time in December.

Looking to stay in an area that’s close to a lot of the main attractions and not super chaotic.

Looking at AirBnBs but hotels are or ruled out
