How to calculate annual gross salary from a net monthly target in Malaysia?
Hello,
I'm an expat moving to KL soon to set up a new capability center for my company. I'm now preparing for my salary negotiation. I've budgeted my living costs and estimated I'd need a net (in-hand) salary of around MYR 8,000 per month to live comfortably. My question is: How do I accurately calculate the annual gross salary I need to ask for to achieve this net amount? I know simply multiplying 8k x 12 = MYR 96k is wrong, as it doesn't account for income tax, EPF, SOCSO, and other deductions. Is there a rough multiplier (e.g., Net x 1.3?) I can use to get a ballpark figure? I've used a bunch of tax calculators and they give me lots of different numbers.
Thanks!
