Question about Ativan dosing for elderly woman - is 6mg daily too much??

Is 6mg / day of Ativan too much for a 77 year old woman with a history of falls?

She is currently hospitalized for rhabdo and her children were shocked by the dose. Is there any legitimate reason for this? It’s prescribed for anxiety for about 12 years but wasn’t always this high.
