I just wanted to play Fortnite for nostalgia… and now I hate Epic Games.
I thought, “Hey, it’s been years, let’s relive the old Fortnite days.” So I downloaded the Epic Games Launcher — huge mistake already.
First, their downloader is unbelievably slow. Like, how is this a multi-billion-dollar company, yet their launcher downloads slower than a toaster running Windows XP?
After 11 hours, I was finally at around 70 GB of 80-something. Then it freezes. I pause. Unpause. Nothing. I restart my PC and relaunch Epic… and it tells me to redownload 77 GB from scratch.
Why even have a “resume download” feature if your launcher just forgets everything? What’s the point of this fancy read/write system when one hiccup wipes your entire install? Steam, Battle.net, even Origin can recover partial downloads — but not Epic.
I even tried all the “fixes” people mention: *Deleting manifest files *Renaming folders *Starting a new download and merging my old 70 GB data *Clicking verify
Guess what? Still starts from 0%. Epic literally cannot detect 70 GB of already-downloaded files sitting right there.
So now I have to redownload 80 GB again — on a launcher that crawls slower than a snail with arthritis.
All I wanted was to play for nostalgia. Instead, I got 12 hours of wasted time, corrupted files, and a reminder why no one wants to deal with Epic’s garbage launcher anymore.
A dead launcher for a dead game. Who’s gonna bother downloading a 90 GB “free” game when the launcher feels like it was coded in MS Paint?
