Interested in fostering a Pigeon

I am interested in fostering a pigeon. I have had cats, dogs, and foster cats (bottle babies, single kittens, and mothers with babies) my whole life and have a passion for rescuing and helping animals in need. I’ve never had a bird before, and thought fostering an adult bird would be a good place to start. Does anyone have advice or guidance on what it is like to foster/ own/rescue a pigeon? I am located in Virginia state if anyone knows of any non profits in or near VA.
