Subaru Forrester versus Toyota RAV4

hello, I have moved to the Midwest and live off of a dirt road so I need to purchase a smaller SUV. I currently drive a 2014 Kia Rio, which I love but unfortunately it is not good for the terrain or the weather here I need help in deciding between these two I love Toyota typically but people are telling me around here that the Subaru are can't be beat. Please advise thank you so much.
