Has anyone experienced this?
Went for a hearing test yesterday and the results were 3 losses between 1-8hz at 30db and the rest were at 20db in one ear, the other has a drop at 4hz at 40db and the rest were at 15/20db.
For the worse ear, she said a HA wouldn’t help even though I fall short in 3 areas despite working with primary children and having tinnitus. Real world experience was quickly dismissed.
She said if I’d been 70+ she would have given me tablets for the tinnitus (didn’t know that was an option…) and HA’s won’t do anything for the tinnitus.
She asked about the tinnitus and I said it was predominantly in one ear but I could hear it in both. Was I sure it was only one ear because if it was I need an mri but if it’s both I don’t. I’ve had the tinnitus for 10+ years.
She then asked ‘so what are you going to do?’ and I said get a new job as I can’t hear the children with the background noise so I’m effectively unable to do my job.
The next statement from her ‘I’ll write a letter and see if you can have one as you’re borderline’ despite being at 3 30db losses. Who exactly is she writing to?
As I was leaving she ended on saying ‘I’ll put you forward for a HA, if it doesn’t work at least we’ve tried’.
I’m in the north of England and have waited 18 months for the NHS appointment and when I got there I felt I had to beg for help and she was spouting BS, am I the only one or was she right in what she said?
Reading this over I feel it’s more of a vent but I’m curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar?
