AITA for refusing to save people from a plane crash in the middle of the ocean?
I (38M) am the world's greatest superhero. Me and my ex (37F) went to rescue civilians being held hostage on a hijacked plane over the Atlantic Ocean. But when we went into the cockpit, I accidentally destroyed the control panel while killing a terrorist with my laser vision. My ex stupidly suggested lifting the plane, which is impossible because I can't stand on air. She then suggested rescuing the hundreds of passengers one-by-one, which I wouldn't be able to do on time. I thought I could just abandon the passengers peacefully, but they started to realize I was gonna leave them to die. Then my stupid ex begged me to rescue two children, which I said no to because they'd just tell the world I left the rest of the people to die. I gave her the ultimatum to leave with me or die with all the stupid normies. She decided to leave with me, and we both watched the plane crash into the ocean. There were no survivors.
My ex feels guilty about the whole thing and hates me, but I thought this incident was a great opportunity to show the world why supes need to be allowed into the military, so shit like this doesn't happen. I managed to tell the media a little white lie that we were too late. Am I somehow the asshole for making the best of a bad situation?
