Black Ops 6 retrospective
With 2 weeks or less until Black Ops 7 releases depending on what you believe. I feel it's a good time to look back on what the game did well and what it didn't.
PROS
-
The pre season 1 period was amazing and felt refreshing compared to the past few years. Was genuinely the most fun I've had on COD since BO3 until the BO7 beta.
-
Game mode variety throughout the seasons were top notch and that goes for zombies and multiplayer. The return of Grief was fun and even though we have hated the crazy skins, some of the tie in modes have been fun.
-
Zombies felt like a semi return to form after Cold War, Vanguard and MWZ. With every map having its own vibe and atmosphere instead of generic facilities or objective based. Terminus in general being a top tier map in my opinion.
-
Most of the Face Off maps at launch felt good to play and not meat grinders. That's in TDM and Kill Confirmed at least, they were too small for Domination.
THE NOT SO GOOD
-
Zombies still wasn't perfect in maintaining some of the OP mechanics from previous titles and the loadout system rendering the box useless still. Not to mention the special and elite zombie spam at launch.
-
Weapons felt too similar to each other in their respective categories and nothing really changed throughout the year. The Jackal PDW, XM4, etc remained the meta and once that recoil nerf came in all the ARs felt the same. Only in this category because at least most were good. In comparison to weapons in the BO7 beta where they all felt different, the Peacekeeper felt different to M15 Mod 0 and MXR 17.
THE BAD
-
The maps, my god besides remasters this might be the worst map selection in COD history. With spawns being horrible and never adjusted and compared to previous titles, doors being in awkward places. Even the remasters weren't particularly good. Most of the maps in the beta felt better than these which is something I'm looking forward to. They were also too small with attachments that increase bullet velocity or range being generally useless.
-
Crazy skins, not only ridiculous to be in the game but some actually provided unintentional advantages by being able to blend in almost perfectly with the backgrounds.
-
SBMM. This was increased to extreme levels in this game and thankfully it's been made minimal in BO7. In MW2019, Cold War and Vanguard it felt manageable but the past few have been extreme in its use.
-
Stakeout. Chaotic like Shipment but not in that good way. Shipment felt like controlled chaos with a few areas to dip into to reload, while Stakeout felt out of control with things constantly on the move. Is it smaller than Shipment or roughly the same size?
UNDECIDED
Why was ranked player limited to 5 weapons, little equipment and perks, etc. I know its CDL rules but surely it's not that limited? What's the reasoning?
