[Discussion] Does anyone feel that digital art as a business will be adversely affected by new tech?

Discussion

I have been a working digital illustrator for over 20 years, and am conflicted about continuing in the field. I feel that the barrier for entry blew apart, and we are now up against so much, not only a saturated market, but a distrust of new tech. I began to notice a huge drop down in clients and the value of the work around 2019, which has only got worse since.

Anyone else feeling this way?

I used to be able to sell rights to images for over £1k, prints for over £30, and had a steady income from various sources such as Society6, my own web store, and other marketplaces. These areas seem to have become more diluted since the pandemic, and it doesn't seem set to change.

I am honestly considering moving into a new line of work. Times change, and that's ok, I guess it's better to pool resources into what works than what has now become seemingly less viable.
