PS4 Autosave at Death?

Hi all.
I am most of the way through the PS4 version of the game on my main save file.
If I die, can I simply go back to the main menu and load my save, or is the death permanently saved to my file?

I have the rocket made, but not left yet as I like exploring a lot.
Basically I want to get my Cyclops destroyed by a leviathan, to see if I can run to the docking bay and eject with my prawn suit before it explodes.

Just for fun, and don't want to do this is my Cyclops being destroyed will be permanently saved to my game file.
