Surgery not listed on claim denial

Earlier this year I developed appendicitis and was taken to the nearest (non-VA) hospital by a family member. I submitted a claim once I was discharged and just received the letter denying it, but it only lists the CT scan and echo they took, not the surgery itself. Should I be expecting a separate letter for the surgery? Or does this mean they covered that and are just billing me for the imaging? Never dealt with anything like this before, thanks for any insight.
