Potential Lute Theory??
I've been wondering why Lute is suddenly hallucinating Adam talking with her. We know it's not the real Adam because he tells her he is in her head, and because of that, he can only know what she knows, not what Adam knew. But why now? Yes, Lute is handling Adam's death poorly. Yes, she's grieving. Yes, she's lashing out. But I'm assuming she's been struggling like this the entire time. So, why did she just now start seeing and, more importantly, talking with this "Adam?"
Is this ghost or hallucination actually something more? If you examine what this "Adam" says to Lute, he is encouraging her to rebel against Sera and hurt Charlie. He wants her to attack Hell. He wants her to give into her anger and hatred, and hurt the ones who hurt her. And he's speaking in her head in Adam's likeness to twist the knife and make her act. He goads her, "Well, I guess it's up to you, then." Once more, pushing her to break with the decision of Heaven on this matter. Does this sound like anything to you?
To me, this sounds like some outside party pulling strings to make Lute fall, or if not fall, cause a lot of chaos. We know that this world has a Great Evil lurking on the horizon. We saw its image in Charlie's story of Hell in the first season. Someone (Roo? I know she's a very mysterious and controversial figure, but Vivzie did recently confirm that Roo will be making her entrance to the story sometime in the coming seasons of Hazbin, and if the ongoing belief that Roo is the Root of All Evil is correct, then maaaaybe she's sinking her claws into some of the more active players in this drama to further her end goal) might be trying to make Lute sin so that she spreads more evil, and especially since Lute's target is Charlie.
We've all agreed in the past that Heaven is corrupt, with Lute and Adam's actions being the clearest example of that, so what if Lute is bring manipulated for some greater evil to break loose? After all, Lute has committed many sins, but continues to believe she is above the consequences simply for being an angel. She will never perceive her actions as unjust because she is so prejudiced against Sinners and the existence of Hell in the first place that every reaction to the extermination she helped start is just more evidence that demons must be eradicated - that they are one note failures who deserve their punishment. Charlie stood up to Adam and the Exorcist Army and one of her followers killed Adam, so now every last one of them must be destroyed. For Lute, this was murder. Nothing will convince her otherwise, and she will never admit her role in the war that led to Adam's death. The way she sees it, demons are scum who deserve suffering and death, and Charlie's attempts at redemption spit in the face of the angels who earned their peaceful afterlife away from those she so openly hates. If the princess had stayed in her place, then she and Adam could have continued slaying demons for all eternity, and she would forever believe in their righteousness. But Adam is dead, now, and Pentious was redeemed. For Lute, the source of all her pain is Charlie and her meddling. She broke the world when she didn't fall in line with the rest of the damned; therefore, Charlie must pay. Lute, in her grief and anger, is the perfect pawn to be played because she wants to cause hurt, and she will give anything for revenge, and she will never admit the evil in that desire.
At least, that's one possibility. It's just a thought that I had, and might not actually be anything. After all, it is also possible that the trial of Sir Pentious and Sera admonishing her and stripping her position from her might have been the breaking point for Lute, and now she's simply snapped. After all, revenge is the only thing Lute seems to care about anymore. But I do really like this seed of an idea that fell into my head.
