Top 5?
What are your top 5 favourite frank songs?
-
Pyramids- The concept, the contrast of matriarchy/enslavement to royalty/nobody did it for me. I love how he used Cleopatra as a figure symbolizing everything, from receiving favours to giving them in the end but still being fixated on pleasing her in the end. It was a journey and the riff by john mayer to close will never get old.
-
Solo- As someone who had an intimate relationship with confinement and loneliness for a while. The double entendres peppered throughout, the ambiguity, the idea of self sufficiency as well as loneliness in solo/so lo. Could be a translation of the former to the latter aligned with franks pitch, maybe I'm giving too much credit or over analyzing bit that's what I felt.
-
Nights- The beat switch, the use of seasonal change in sounds that perfectly capture his portrayals. "Every night fucks every day up, every day patches the night up", it's pretty self explanatory with this one lyric alone.
-
Ivy- The riffs, the chords, the lyrics feel nostalgic, melancholic yet joyous all at the same time. Saying this as a hopeless romantic so the fact I can't even relate, makes it even more powerful.
-
Sweet Life- it's a song that describes the modern age of social media very well. Even if it's primary intent on the surface was to highlight shallowness/privilege and how the wealthy live in a bubble. I love his emphasis on cherishing life's simple pleasures as the ones we often chase fade and dullen. It's very relevant in society today.
