Am I too hateful?
Hi all, i guess im just looking to see if anyone relates, and for insight. I've never really been christian. I think i stopped believing in santa when i was like 5, because i just thought it was crazy. I'm not just saying that to sound 'smart' or whatever, but ive always just thought the idea of god and how he created everything bla bla bla was ridiculous. Thankfully, my family (aside my now passed grandparents) isnt religious. My dad and i often talk about how stupid religion is (though isnt atheism also a religion? i dont know much about it.)
Anyways, I just lose respect for people as soon as they mention that they believe in religion. not that i think im above them or anything, but how close-minded do you have to be to believe in things with literally no evidence? with tremendous opposing scientific evidence? "My faith in god..." you're done buddy i no longer hold you in high esteem. the thing that gets me most is when people thank god for things that he clearly didnt fucking do. things like thanking god for you being able to pay rent (did you not go to work and get paid to afford it??) or thanking god that chemo worked and you're healthier (was that not done by doctors and science???) And like, so many people seem insane talking about it. I am in highschool, so a lot of the people around me are young and dont know any better, but especially from what i see online through comment sections, its like cults. and i know atheists say that, but like, its sounds like brainwashing! i went on youtube today (which is what sparked this post and looking up the sub) and saw this kind of spiritual youtuber who i never thought was religious post a video titled "Loving God will change your life." Insert eye roll.. and like people can believe in what they want to believe in i guess, its fine if you want to believe that you'll be saved if you dont eat pork even when you still smoke and drink every weekend, but i think its stupid and its stupider to put it on other people. the comments are insane. like??? am i alone on this? people seem brainwashed and crazy talking about their gods and what they believe in, what he will do, when he's coming back etc etc. and omg the rapture? i was visiting my dads friends a few months ago and someones wife came over and unleashed her beliefs on me and my sister randomly, unprovoked. genuinely ranting about believing that the rapture is coming soon, so she isnt making any plans. then, she tells us that 5 years ago she got cancer and didnt see a doctor and somehow god saved her. omfg. its unbearable.
i know this is already very long, but the last thing is that i feel pressured to say that i believe in god. i was at work the other day and having a discussion about religion with one of my coworkers (which on another note is lowk bigoted (hes a sikh) and hates our gay coworkers). he asked me randomly, "Are you a christian?" I was taken aback, because fuck no, lol, but then i was like "yeah," out of fear of not being respected? I'm not even sure. if people ask me if i believe, ill say yeah, but i truly dont at all. i think science is too undeniable and if you need a religion to be a good person, you suck.
TL;DR
I don't respect people who believe in god(s). I think people who preach about their religion sound brainwashed and crazy, and i feel bad for thinking that but i do. i feel crazy because almost noone in my life seems to recognize what i do, and how insane people seem regarding their religion.
