Amend 2022 Tax return and report stock transactions
My Uncle passed away last week and I am going through his last few tax returns. I found out he didn't report his stock transactions for 2022 and I am going to help my Aunt file an amended return. There are a few hundered stock transactions with some of them being wash sales. The cost basis has been reported and the gain (loss) has been adjusted for the wash sales. It is going to be very tedious for me to enter all these stock transactions on 8949. I suppose I can split the non-wash transactions to Schedule D and the wash transactions to 8949. However this is still very manual and error-prone. Can I not just enter a summary of the stock transactions as reported by the brokerage on Schedule D and mail the 1099-B?. I know the net gain has taken into account the wash sales. The net gain is a loss and even though no taxes are due I still want to file the amended tax so that the short-term loss and long-term loss are correctly carried over.
