I had a very old iPhone 6 in its original box that didn’t work collecting dust in my cabinet. It was in good cosmetic shape so I figured maybe someone could use it.

Listed it at $20+free shipping, “not working/for parts/does not charge”. After a few weeks, I got a BIN offer for $13, and was happy to get the phone out of my cabinet. I get shipping discounts through work, so it cost about $3 to mail. Net ~$6. I’m fine with this.

The buyer messaged me (attached pics) and it was such a strange conversation.

I feel like I’m being shaken down here, I’m just trying to figure out the best option:

1. If they open a case with eBay, will eBay actually review it or do they just automatically honor the refund?
2. If eBay automatically refunds, I think I will come out under water for the shipping charges.
3. If I send him the $7 he wants, I’m only out $1 but feels sort of scammy.
4. I’ve been on eBay since 1998 with a flawless record, is this report going to tarnish my history?

I’d love to hear from anyone that’s been through this, and get feedback on how I have/should handle this. I guess I’ve been really lucky with buyers and have never encountered a situation like this.

Thanks!
