Came to ask then Ill leave. I press the "play" button how does the artist here the ring of the cash machine?

When I listen to a track on any music service somehow the artist gets some kind of payment. I think.

I figure we listen to a track, some one counts how many times its played, then music service pays some office in the sky to pay the artist. Would you please tell me how it works?

Bonus question: What does the artist make per play? (If that's how it works)

Thanks!
