Taper preferences?

Training plans

This question is inspired by a recent video from a professional runner that I follow named Mikey Mitch—he explained that he doesn’t taper for marathons and likes to just train pretty hard right up until his race. He thinks his legs stay stronger this way.

Personally, I’ve always tapered starting three weeks out from my race. However, I have noticed that some of the more advanced running plans, like Jack Daniels, don’t start tapering until two weeks out, and even then the taper involves running most days leading up to the race.

What have been your experiences with tapering? Do you have a preferred method?
